Weekly, Haruhiko Kawaguchi
Photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi makes photographs of couples that he meets in nightclubs after vacuum sealing them together in human sized bags. This might sound like one of the craziest things to go up to a person and ask upon first meeting them, but many couples actually agree. Kawaguchi makes the photographs within 10-20 seconds due to the subjects needing to breathe, and the results are nothing short of breathtaking (pun intended). I think that the photos evoke a feeling of other things that are typically vacuum sealed either being one-time-use things, or things that need to be preserved. Food items fit into both of these categories, and causes me to think about the temporary nature of life, and how it's human nature to want to preserve it. I also think about the potential temporary nature of the relationships of the subjects, and the definite temporary nature between the subject and the photographer.
