Paolo Woods by Stephanie

These images are some images from a book titled Chinafrica. These images were taken in 2007 and are about the industrialization of some areas in Nigeria and Congo and other countries throughout Africa that are still somewhat new areas for industrialization. These business men either start up factories or companies or buy old companies and move from China into Africa to oversea the production process and ensure that work is being done properly. I found the concept of this series very interesting in that the behavior and body language of some of the business men seem to be of superiority.  For me, it's unfortunate to see because not only are foreigners profiting from land that does not belong to them but they also seem to have an ego. It could just be me but this series sort of revs me up and not in a good way. The way Woods has captured some of these men - which I'm sure for some of them, he has told the business man to stand at a certain spot and smile, but it seems the ego of the business men doesn't have a problem with the way they are being portrayed. The color palette is vibrant and I enjoy looking at the detail in each setting.
