Petra Wittmar was born in 1955 in Medebach. She studied photography at the Universität Essen GHS/Folkwang from 1977 to 1983. Since then she has been working as a freelance photographer on projects dealing with European architecture from the early 20th century and on the topics of urban and suburban spaces. She lives in Essen and since 1986 she has been working together with Ulrich Deimel.
In class we've discussed many time about creating images that allow the audience to discover things – to give viewers the chance to participate in the creative process. I think these images exemplify just that. With the use of composition or color, Wittmar allows you to see interesting things that make her images unique without being obnoxious about it.
