Weekly Post: Monica Ruzanski by Stephanie

In the portraits from NYC-based photographer Monica Ruzanski'Dicen Que, the domestic workers she depicts are not holding children, but rather, taking their owners’ dogs out for one of their many daily walks. These images highlight the relationship between boss and worker and Ruzanski feels as though it's clear on where these women stand when it comes to class. The act of caring for something that is not yours calls for a specific kind of person - especially when lines are blurred between employee and employer. These women sleep at the houses of the people they work with 5-7 days a week, being there every moment of the day to do their duties.

Ruzanski had them stand straight on to face the camera and it looks like she made an effort to capture most of the dogs faces as well. Out of all the images I've seen it looks to me like one may have a bond with the dog, while the others simply look like they're doing their job and nothing more. These captures were taken in Mexico City.
