Weekly Post, "American Nights" by Paul Graham, Alli

These photos are from "American Night" series by Paul Graham. His composition of these photographs contain people on the streets of an urban area. Most were taken with a very distinct stream of lighting from the sun and harsh shadows. The persons in the pictures are either centered or close to the center, but are the main focus of the photographs and is what's noticed first. They have a deep depth of field so we see and pay attention to not only the person in the center, but also their surroundings and environment. In most of these photos the subject is not paying attention or looking directly at the camera. They subjects look as if they were caught off guard, so they all look normal in their environment as if they are somewhere they visit often or on the regular. They have no facial expression, so the mood we get from the individuals is what they are doing in the picture, their environment, and how Paul Graham photographed them.  The colors in these photos are vibrant, but also grimy. They are  also well balanced in the composition. These photos also have a grungy feeling to them which causes the photos to have a unsubtle, greasy type of mood.
