Weekly Post: Gregory Halpern by Ken Riley

Another of Halpern's work, a book titled Harvard Works Because We Do, documents the struggle for fair wages for service workers including security guards, janitors and dining workers,  and the stop of the practice of Harvard's administration for outsourcing jobs to lower paying companies. Initially a member of a small group of sit-ins, this effort sparked a firestorm that swept across campus that engendered support from thousands of other students and faculty.

Halpern's images are made both in-the-moment and more formally with portraits made with available light. His images are both black and white and color with sharp focus non-saturated, natural color. His selections show an always ready to capture the action type image. Also included in the book are selections from flyers and posters that help tell the story of the struggle.
