Weekly Post: Arne Svenson by Ken Riley

Arne Svenson finds solace in photographing kittens. The photographs are not quite in usual fashion as we've come to expect. The images are full-length photos of mostly seated kittens but with a humorous bent. The young cats are photographed when they are completely in their own world and not paying attention to the photographer. Placed on bright colored printed or solid colored fabric or patterned afghans, the images have a slight over-the-top feel.

Drawing contrast to his last shoot doing forensic facial reconstruction, Svenson's photos of the kittens are light-hearted and witty. They show how uncooperative a subject can be. As he puts it, "as many artist know, much can be learned from a portrait of the back of a head…"
